I Believe in Living, Assata Shakur
Project Details:
- Title: I Believe in Living, Assata Shakur
- Inscription: I believe in living. I believe in birth. I believe in the sweat of love and the fire of truth. Assata Shakur aligned herself with Black Nationalist groups, resisting racial oppression and social violence. She participated in student rights, anti-war, and black liberation efforts, joining the Black Liberation Army in 1971, which the FBI branded as an anarchist group. In 1979, Shakur escaped from a maximum security prison, and travelled to Cuba in 1984 where lives in exile. Since then, Shakur’s life has been depicted in songs, films and literary works. She remains a potent model as an activist willing to risk her life and freedom for the liberation of oppressed peoples.
