Inscription: Marielle Franco was a black, queer, femme, and single mother from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a member of Rio’s City Council she was a ferocious advocate for the poor, black, and femme constituents of the favela. Her agenda refuted police brutality, extra judicial killings, and gender violence. She was assassinated in March of 2018 by political opponents causing international outcry. Her legacy lives on BRIGHT & STRONG as communities continue to fight racism, wealth inequality, and queerphobia in Brazil.
